Modified Tai Chi instructor workshops are organised in different centres around New Zealand throughout the year. The workshops train instructors to deliver the ACC funded modified Tai Chi programme that is part of ACC’s Falls Prevention strategy.
Two levels of workshops are offered:
Basic course
This consists of a two day workshop with a written and practical assessment.
Advanced course
This is usually completed approximately one year after the basic course and once you have reached the required level of competency for a modified Tai Chi instructor. A refresher course is required every two years.
How to apply
To become a modified Tai Chi instructor, you’ll need to be either a healthcare professional (eg physiotherapist, occupational therapist etc), an exercise instructor, Tai Chi instructor or an advanced Tai Chi student.
Applications need to be received at least four weeks before the workshop. You will be notified of acceptance to the course.
If you are interested in applying for registration:
- Fill in the application form.
- Your local Injury Prevention Consultant (IPC) will then contact you to confirm acceptance on the course.
First aid certificates
Please note that you are required to have a current first aid certificate to instruct modified Tai Chi classes. If you do not hold a current first aid certificate you will need to make arrangements and supply details of your training in order to receive the modified Tai Chi course certificate.
